Before discussing the role of teachers in the Society 5.0 era, let’s first understand what this era means. Society 5.0 is an ideal societal concept that integrates advanced technology with a primary focus on human welfare. In this era, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) or anything are used to create innovative solutions for social and environmental challenges.
Education is one of the main pillars of society, education is vital role in preparing young generations to face the world in this era. So thats, teachers have a crucial role as pillars of transformation. They not only transfer knowledge but also shape character, skills, and values essential for this era. so that’s, teachers have many roles in society 5.0. let’s talk about the role of the role of teachers in society 5.0
- Drivers of technology based educational transformation
Technology is a crucial element in the Society 5.0 era, and teachers play an important role in introducing it to students. Teachers can use technology as a learning medium, helping students see the positive aspects of technological advancements. For example, teachers can use digital learning platforms, or simulation tools to explain complex topics. By integrating these tools into the cteaching and learning process, teachers prepare students to understand and harness technology responsibly and effectively.
- The model or instillers of humanitarian value
In this era, technology is indeed important, but social and humanitarian values are equally vital. The younger generation must learn how to socialize properly, respect their elders, and use technology wisely. Teachers play a key role in these qualities by giving the model of human values into lessons and activities. This can include discussions about ethics, group activities that can see the value of teamwork, and lessons on empathy and understanding. They will learn from those activity how to be not selfish, how to be respect to other, etc. When students internalize these values, they will grow into individuals who can balance technological skills with social responsibility.
- Leaders of inclusive dducation
Society 5.0 emphasizes inclusivity, which means providing equal access to education for everyone, regardless of their background or conditions. Teachers are the driving force behind creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel accepted and appreciated. By ensuring inclusivity, teachers help build a generation that values equality and diversity.
Those are the roles of the teachers in this era, I as the reader can not mention all of the role of the teacher, because teacher do anything in school, so it will be not enough if I write all 😊. But beside that let’s talk about what make me think and doubt about this era, the question arises: Are Indonesian teachers ready for this era? Is the infrastructure adequate for all schools across the country? Will there be disparities between schools?
These are valid concerns because, undeniably, the facilities and resources in schools vary greatly between big city and village or urban area. For example, schools in major cities may have access to high-speed internet, modern devices, and well trained teachers, while schools in rural or remote regions may lack basic infrastructure.
Additionally, many teachers may not yet have the training or support needed to effectively integrate technology into their teaching. Without sufficient preparation, the potential of Society 5.0 in education cannot be fully realized. I can say that I am so lucky as a teacher in MENTARI INDONESIA Islamic Junior High School that located in Bekasi–one of big city have a chance to use advanced technology in my teaching and learning process. But how about teachers that live in village or urban? I read several jurnals and I think it’s important to write in my written here, that to address these challenges and strengthen the role of teachers in the Society 5.0 era, several steps can be taken:
- Improving infrastructure
I don’t know what is the way but the government provide equal access to educational facilities and resources. This includes building internet infrastructure in remote areas, supplying devices for students and teachers, and ensuring that schools across the country are equally equipped.
- Teacher training programs
Comprehensive training programs are essential to equip teachers with the skills needed to use technology effectively in the classroom. The example is the old teachers that have difficulties in technology so, the programs should focus not only on technical skills but also on how to integrate technology with teaching methods.
- Community Collaboration
Schools should collaborate with parents, local communities, and stakeholders to create a supportive learning environment. This can include sharing resources, conducting workshops, or involving the community in school activities.
So the conclusion about what I write is teachers are the backbone of educational transformation in the Society 5.0 era. By acting as drivers of technology-based learning, instillers of humanitarian values, and leaders of inclusive education, teachers play a vital role in shaping a future ready generation. However, to fully realize their potential, challenges like unequal access to infrastructure and a lack of training must be addressed.
With the right support from governments, institutions, and communities, teachers can effectively prepare students for the demands of this new era. This transformation will not only elevate the quality of education but also contribute to building a society that is technologically advanced, inclusive, and centered on human welfare.
